Kerwa Dam Catchment ‘Encroached’ Beyond FTL, Illegal land filling to shrink Dam’s Water Holding Capability, Says Green Activist | FPJ
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a transparent violation of Wetland and Nationwide Green Tribunal (NGT) rules, land sharks are destroying the catchment space of Kerwa Dam below Huzur tehsil by allegedly illegally filling and leveling land for actual property growth.
The encroachments within the catchment space are extending past Full Tank Stage (FTL) mark, drastically decreasing the water holding capability of the dam, stated inexperienced activist. Complaints have been filed with the collector, MP Air pollution Management Board (MPPCB), and the Water Sources Division (WRD), demanding motion towards the encroachers. The catchment space for water availability on the dam website spans 34.5 sq km, whereas the dam’s gross storage capability is 25 M cum (million cubic meter).
Kerwa dam caters to the water wants of areas together with DK 3, 5 Colony, Sumitra Advanced, Garib Nagar, Om Nagar, Police Colony, Bairagarh Chichli, Salaiya space, Ratnapur, Godari, Hanumant Narela, Hinotia, Sohagpur, Semrikalan, Pipaliya Keshar, Inayatpur, Rasulia, Gaurav Nagar, Daulatpur amongst others. Town depends on 4 main water sources- Higher Lake, Kolar Dam, Narmada River and Kerwa dam.
Environmentalist Rashid Noor Khan who has approached the authorities complaining towards the encroachment within the catchment space, stated that actual property gamers are filling and leveling the Kewar dam catchment space for his or her tasks. “This may cut back the water holding capability of the Dam and influence Bhopal’s water provide. Complaints have been made to collector, WRD, MPPCB and different authorities searching for a verify on any developmental actions within the catchment space and motion towards the encroachers,” stated the inexperienced activist.
